The Griffith Avenue Mile – Now Just Three Weeks Away

29th August 2023: The 40th anniversary Griffith Avenue Mile is now just three weeks away. This unique racing experience takes place on Sunday, 17 September on Dublin’s iconic Griffith Avenue in Drumcondra. As the event day closes in and with registrations filling up, runners and walkers are urged to sign up today on the Griffith Avenue Mile Website to avoid disappointment.

As people across the country have been cheering on the successes of Ireland’s athletics team in Budapest the Griffith Avenue Mile provides runners of all abilities, as well as walkers and families, with the opportunity to emulate them in a truly scenic location. The 2023 event is shaping up to be a fun-filled and thrilling day and will include a community event in the DCU All Hallows campus after the event.

This year’s participants will have the opportunity to test themselves against some of the fastest runners in the country. Included in this year’s elite field are Ide nic Dhomhnail, a former national champion for the 5000 meters, and John Travers a three-time national champion for the 1500 meters. While former World Champion Eamon Coghlan will be the race ambassador encouraging all participants.

Speaking ahead of the event, local organiser, Mark Rasdale said, “We are really excited about this year’s event. As the event continues to build year on year, we are excited about bringing more people to this beautiful part of Dublin to enjoy Ireland’s best one mile race. With a high calibre field of participants, there is a growing excitement that we could see new course records set on September 17.”

Rasdale also paid tribute to the community spirit that drives the event. “We are incredibly fortunate to be able run this event, which is thanks to a team of dedicated volunteers. Our partnership with DCU is imperative to the success of the event. While racing alongside some of Ireland’s top athletes, it gives this race a unique characteristic and something I am incredibly excited to watch. As we are celebrating its 40th anniversary and what promises to be a brilliant day, we are encouraging anyone who can avail of tickets to sign up.”

The Griffith Avenue Mile is a community led, not for profit event organized by a team of volunteers from Marino Athletics Club and the All Hallows Area Association in partnership with Athletics Ireland and supported by DCU & Dublin City Council and many local sponsors without whom the event would not be possible.
