Griffith Avenue Mile, 2019 - Thank You!

As the dust settles on what was a truly great day at the Griffith Avenue Mile event last Sunday, the Organising Committee who are made up of members of the All Hallows Area Association and the Marino Athletics Club would like to thank a number of organisations and individuals who made the event possible, and made the day really special for us and all our participants.

In particular we’d like to thank Dublin City University, Dublin City Council, Cairn PLC, Sportsfest, Sport Ireland and all the local businesses listed here for their encouragement and support from the very outset of this project. Our Volunteers
A few weeks ago we put the call out for volunteers in the community to come forward to help support the significant logistical challenge of managing this event on the day - marshalling our participants, manning intersections on the Avenue and generally helping with the event. And volunteers came forward in big numbers - a true testament to the goodwill this event has had in the community. Thank you all for giving up your Sunday to help make this event a safe and enjoyable day for all.

Local community and residents associations
We really appreciate all the support from local community and residents associations in helping us spread the word about our event, and generally for the support and encouragement to make it happen.

Marino, Charlemont and Beresford Residents in particular were of huge support as was Marino Institute of Education - we are very grateful for their patience and understanding during the limited road closure on Griffith Avenue. We have a strong community in Marino & Drumcondra and we’re very grateful for the support we’ve received across these groups and organisations.

School Principals, staff and children
Thank you to our local school Principals, Staff and students for their enthusiastic engagement with the promotion of the event and indeed their participation in the event itself. It was really heart warming to see so many local children taking part.

Neighbouring Athletics Clubs
To all our neighbouring Athletics Clubs - it was great to see the excitement about the Griffith Avenue Mile across the athletics community and for your active participation in the event

Dominican Convent
We are grateful to the Sisters in the Dominican Convent on Griffith Avenue for opening up their grounds to the gathering crowds awaiting the start of the races yesterday.

In particular, Sister Dorrie Balfe was so accommodating to allow us access to the grounds for a super pre race warm up in a safe space for kids and adults.
