The one mile track will be closed to traffic between the Swords Road and the Malahide Road to allow all participants and supports to enjoy this unique event.

Interested participants can register to participate in this exciting community event at www.GriffithAvenueMile.ie – spaces are strictly limited and are expected to sell out quickly so register early to avoid disappointment.

The first and last time a similar event was held was way back in 1983 when the inaugural ‘Dublin Straight Mile’ race was run. South African-born American Sydney Maree, who briefly held the world 1,500 meters record that summer, won the race in 3 minutes 49.30 seconds. Spain's Jose Manuel Abascal was second and Ray Flynn of Ireland finished third. The top five was rounded out by Britain's Graham Williamson and Ireland's Eammon Coghlan, the world 5,000 meters champion at the time.
